Many teens and young adults dream of one day becoming an NFL star. St. Louis Rams center Jason Brown, is already considered one, but he decided to pursue another passion.

He decided to quit playing the game of football professionally and even walked away in the midst of a $37 million contract so he could become a farmer. He bought 1,000 acres of farmland in North Carolina and started growing crops.

His goal is to feed those in the state who cannot afford food and thus far he’s been successful. In a quote to CBS, Brown remarked “ My agent told me, ‘You’re making the biggest mistake of your life’ And I looked right back at him and I said, ‘No I’m not. No I’m not.’”

Back in 2009, Brown signed a 5-year contract with the St. Louis Rams. three years later, the team decided to release him and Brown made the decision to farm for the needy instead of taking his talents to a rival team.

What’s very interesting about his choice is that he had absolutely no first-hand experience in the world of farming prior to buying the land. He prepared for the tough job by watching YouTube videos. He also received advice from fellow farmers.

Just recently, he harvested 100,000 pounds of sweet potatoes. Over the course of one weekend, he donated 10,000 pounds of cucumbers and 46,000 pounds of his sweet potatoes.
