The Colombian government halted peace talks and has sent a large military brigade to the rebel stronghold of Choco to look for General Ruben Dario Alzate who was captured by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) unarmed, in civilian dress, and according the the FARC "committing an act of war." A massive military rescue operation is underway to recover the general and two people who were accompanying him. The FARC has requested a bi-lateral ceasefire since 2012, but the Colombian government refuses. Colombian political and social groups continue to call for peace talks to resume in spite of recent events. teleSUR
