COMPACS®-EXPRESS system aims at express diagnostics of wheel-motor units (WMU) health in a rolling stock.

The system is based on vibration measurement in bearings of a traction motor, reduction gear, and bearing boxes. Vibration sensors are magnetically fixed at the checkpoints underneath the bogie. The system is able to start the traction electric motor from the operator’s control panel, to speed it up automatically providing simultaneous control and current limiting, to maintain the set rotation rate and to deenergize it.

Quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the diagnostic parameters are displayed on the screen in the text and graphic forms. Assessment of the equipment actual health and the diagnosis making by the integrated expert system are performed automatically basing on results of digital processing of signals received from the vibration sensors.

The system allows to make a quick assessment of WMU repair quality, detection of hidden defects of bearings and reduction gear, WMU health prognosis for the nearest period of operating time.
