British Prime Minister David Cameron addressed a joint sitting of Australia’s parliament on November 14, telling the legislators he hopes to introduce legislation dealing with citizens traveling to other countries to join terrorist groups “shortly.” Censoring the “extremist narrative” from the internet was also part of the plan to tackle radicalisation, said Cameron.

Internet providers are key to the solution, he said, adding that it was their “social responsibility.”

“There is a role for government in that – we must not allow the internet to be an ungoverned space but there is a role for companies too,” he said. “In the UK we are pushing them to do more including strengthening filters, improving reporting mechanisms and being more proactive in taking down this harmful material.”
