Sonia By Sonia Rykiel is continuing its collaboration with young, current creative women. After a brief flirtation with the contemporary art scene for a series of videos that brought to life specific pieces from previous collections, the house now turns towards Parisian filmmaker Charlotte de Champfleury in search of storytelling.
For the arrival of the Fall Winter 2014 collection, the director was asked to deliver a personal interpretation on the theme of stripes, the most favoured motif of Madame Rykiel, returning this season in a host of different guises.
Diva Stripes is a the idle fantasy of a well-heeled young lady. Her back may be straight for the strict rhythms of the piano lesson’s metronome, but daydreams of far less decorum bubble beneath the surface. Tight striped dresses pulled onto bare naked skin replace the overly-orderly outfits and our diva begins to dance kaleidoscopic. As straight lines blur steadily into stripes, her blurred senses become desires.
Charlotte de Champfleury sturdied at Queen Mary University Film School. After experience assisting script editors and on sets, she now devotes her time to the writing and directing of her own films.
