On Thursday night, a woman in Boston fell and was fatally struck by a train. Surveillance cameras captured a man allegedly stealing one of her belongings after she had been killed.
The impact caused the woman’s cell phone to become dislodged. It was left lying on the train platform.
The man, later identified as 26-year-old Josue Gonzalez, witnessed the fatal occurrence and walked over to where her phone was.
Transit Police further elaborated “The male keeps his foot on top of the phone as he scans the area apparently to see if anyone is watching him. The male then reaches down and takes possession of the decedent’s phone places it into his pocket and casually walks away.”
Surveillance images were distributed online and to media outlets. Harsh reactions from citizens quickly poured in from people who made it clear they believed stealing from a victim is an unthinkable crime.
The suspect has since turned himself into police. Gonzalez, who is from Brockton, Massachusetts, has also returned the victim’s cell phone.
He is now facing charges of larceny in Boston Municipal Court .
