I lay,
He came
The mask slipped
Unabashedly cried.
He looked with soft hazel eyes,
Slipped his hand into mine.
Passed me a face tissue
And a tumbler of water.
And gently said
Come, get up
Need some fresh air
And a long drive over
The expressway.
Guess what,
Mustard fields
Await you for
Your yearly tour.
I smiled,
Powdered my nose
Pulled up my hose.
Son, missed you
Me too, me too…
He said in a husky voice,
Let’s not allow the melodrama
To ruin this instant in time.
Then added in an even tone
At times, it’s better to
Step out of the comfort zone
To break comatose state.
See, life ephemeral
Ah, role reversal,
I retorted,
Nodding, he put
The car in gear
Invited me to
Join in singing…
