In the midst of selfish pride,
a precious childhood has died.
Someday she'll search in memory,
to find - a battle for custody.
All I've taught you will destroy,
With candy and another toy.
She used to like to hold my hand,
but I can't go to Disneyland.
Is it worth the victory,
if she'll be left a casualty?
A small voice asks within this war,
"What are you really fighting for?"
God will be the final judge,
to show the heart that holds a grudge.
In the end no one will win,
but her soul will be worn thin.
All you've done with endless scorn,
is made this child - a child torn.

for my stepdaughter Nicole
