Percy Dovetonsils - confidence man

I'll tell you why I wear this tie,
and why I'm so well groomed.

My appearance gives its lie
to the role that I've assumed.

I assume my feet are on the ground
and that I reason clearly,

and that I am not lost but found,
and I am yours, sincerely.

The truth's, of course, a darker thing.
It's rooted in my wandering.

I haven't learned to settle down
because my underpinnings are unsound.

I cast about for explanations
and hope to come to rest

but their faults make my foundations
untenable, at best.
