Just at the end of World War II.
Out of the chaos a great art mystery grew.
Extracted from safe storage in a Quedlinburg mine.
Taken was a priceless German church artifacts shrine.
Only an American army lieutenant was seen in the vicinity.
Making off with the lot was a Texan with a pre-war art affinity.
Mailed in secret military packages to his Texas home in Whitewright.
Eventually he became just a suffering, reclusive sight.
After his death his siblings sought the artifacts sale.
Dragging out a decades long thievery tale.
Over the years with this act so perverse -
Resulted only in the thief and his family enduring an ironic curse?
