Please, oh, please...

May I fall awake,
leaving this terrible,
horrible, breathtaking
nightmare dream,
which has left me
knee deep in sweat
and breathless with fear,

afraid to fall asleep,
afraid to return
to dark night's terrors,
to things which loom up
out of the pit of darkness,
out of midnight's blackness,

willing to take my mind,
my heart,
my very soul...
Please, oh, please,
allow me to return,
alive and rested
to daylight's hours.
Let me fall awake!
