I remember the day we had to put him down
Blood soaked diarrhea soaking into everything
Getting its filth all over the house
And I didn’t care in the slightest way
All I could think about was
How I’ve watched him grow old
Still following me wherever I went
Sticking his smiling mug in all my business
He was like that since the day we got him
When I was still young
And he was still young
But his legs started to give out on him
And he had more and more
Trouble standing up
I guess this was reason he
Would try to lay on me
Always looking like a rug
Sticking to me like Velcro
I haven’t had this kind of trouble
In about…
I’d have to say
Five years it must have been
Without feeling absolutely alone
