ANDREW BLAKEMORE - Puddles

The leaves do lie in puddles on the pavement,
And flow in river gutters down the drain,
I myself am feeling down and lonesome,
As I walk alone in pouring rain.

Relentlessly it falls and there's no shelter,
The shutters drawn and closed as evening nears,
The city lights are shining down so brightly,
But only now illuminate my fears.

I wander witthout care and no direction,
My shoes are leaking and I feel so cold,
Not a penny to my name and I'm so hungry,
Everything I owned now lost or sold.

I walk along the soaking city centre,
Lit only by the shop signs up above,
The tree-lined roads around me are so empty,
Like my heart that is so starved of love.

The leaves do lie in puddles on the pavement,
And flow in river gutters down the drain,
I myself am feeling down and lonesome,
As I walk alone in pouring rain.
