Denys E. W. Jones - Do You Think The World Will Notice?

Do you think the world will notice
When you are dead and gone?
Do you think the grass will cease to grow,
The birds give up their song?

Do you fancy sun will fail to rise,
Or moon at night not shine,
The public clocks come to a stop,
Refuse the hours to chime?

Alas, you’re much mistaken,
If to such hopes you cling.
The grass will go on growing,
The birds still gaily sing.

At dawn the sun shall duly rise,
By night the moon shall shine.
The clocks at the appointed hour
Their merry notes shall chime.

The world paid scant attention
The day that you were born.
The world will not bewail your loss,
When you are here no more.
