Venezuelan historians describe the original Letter of Jamaica, written by Simon Bolivar, as the most important document in the history of the country. It explains the struggle for independence and against Spanish colonialism and calls for the creation of the Great Republic, a precursor to Latin American unity and integration. Its recent discovery will allow the manuscript to be compared with the version published after 1830.
