I lifted my foot...
and it appeared
from nowhere
A hole
A deep black hole
deeper than the deepest mineshaft
Mum had warned me about them
over and over
(So deep you'd never reach the bottom - so don't go too close!)
I stopped
in panic
and turned...
and there
in front of me
was another
and another
and another
I was surrounded by them
hundreds of them
deep black holes
deep black holes
of
FEAR
There was nowhere to go
so I stood
immobile
face white
heart beating like a demented drummer
And suddenly...
the ground opened
and I felt myself falling
down my very own Alice in Wonderland rabbit hole

nothingness...
