Christmas Comes Once A Year
by Barbara Lynn Terry
Christmas comes only once a year,
And so does my sadness and fear,
That I will be all alone again.
Because my family cannot sustain,
Their acceptance of this girl in me.
Christmas comes only once a year,
Along with my loneliness and tears.
My dinner is at a meal site,
Where servings are small and light,
And I eat in silence dreading my plight.
Christmas comes only once a year,
But I don't understand why they're not here,
To celebrate the birth of our Lord,
Who will free us from all discord,
And me who will be so bored.
Christmas comes only once a year,
I wish to God my family could hear,
The sobbing and sniffles of a sad
Little girl who never did anything bad.
Oh why at me are they so mad?
Christmas comes only once a year,
A day of love and great cheer,
They are so distant and yet so near.
So why can't they be here,
To celebrate with me, this blessed day,
That once a year comes this way?
