ToddMichael St. Pierre - Nursing Home Eyes

Look into my window,
Observe silk flowers
Swaying to a ceiling fan breeze,
And a wallflower,
Wheelchair-bound at that.
Through the endlessness of hours,
I wait and watch, looking out
Past concrete and undernourished shrubs,
I see cars and bikes rushing by,
They keep me company.
Sun-faded draperies, once red, now pink,
Speak for years that have fallen behind me.
Suddenly I'm a slave to nostalgia,
Bound by silence, and distances,
See the photographs on my vanity?
Notice how they stare back at me
With abstract smiles for the out-to-pasture.
I know they are too busy,
Everyone has their own lives to live.
Hey... would you look into my world?
Can you spare just one moment
To share a single thought?
I know you don't have time to visit.
Yes, I am still here,
Alone, but
Alive!
