If you've ever had
A small child in your life,
You know the joy
Of watching them
Discover something on their own.

The following conversation
Took place in my garden,
One warm June day,
Just after my little boy
Had turned three.

'Look Mom...a bug! ! !
He's going very fast! '

'Yes, I see that Buddy...
Mind, the flowers,
Stay on the grass'

'Can I help you water Mom? '

'Sure you can bud...
I'll just go get the watering can.'

'Mom, I have a great idea! ! ! '

'What's that Bud? '

Mind on other things...

'I can take the water
From my swimming pool! ! '

I pause for a moment
And focus
On what he's just said.
It sinks in.
Only three, you say?

'You're right Bud...
You can
That's called conservation.'
