Esther Leclerc - Elvis, My Elvis (Costello, That Is)

Wry word-smith, moody wonder
tickling my mind with musical thunder:
songs of quirky love and adoration - -
not only love, but petty irritation.
Just like a 'real' person,
not too good for this world - -
and that's the big Attraction(s) .

Smooth voice, stubbly chin,
Man, Elvis, you really do me in
with your crooning (got me mooning) - -
then you twist it up by shouting
all your passion and frustration.
Boy, you're too cool for any school
(much less one school of thought) - -
got me over-wrought, but I couldn't feel better.

Tiny man on stage, but all-man, and you're lashin'
with that hunka sexy voice, wearing that suit and
mysterious expression; glasses tightly fastened - -
I love those dark heavy frames - -
Retro? no, you've worn 'em since
the moment you were born.

Mood-master, unshy icon basher, you wrote
'The Book' and I've memorized it - -
and how I wish I were 'Alison', world killing me or no!
Load up your bow and shoot that arrow - -
Elvis, you don't need Cupid 'cause I'm fully
stupid when it comes to brainy love.
I know your aim is true... 'I Want You' too.

(2.18.06 - To my dismay and gall, he's in Diana's thrall... Krall, that is!)
