Uriah Hamilton - You Wished You Had Never Been Born

Drugged eyes roam the boulevards,
The deadened souls of childhood robbed,
Ransacked by violence and sadness,
Trying to meet survival’s needs
With a mind that has been blunted
By a thousand crimes felt or seen.

You told me you wished
You had never been born,
That your heart has been torn
In the Godless void of the dismal streets
Where innocence is sexualized
And mistreated.

And I told you of a rosary
I gave to a homeless man with tattered shoes,
A rosary he saw and wanted
When I offered him some change,
And how in that very instance he found enough life in his eyes
To somehow retie the laces
Of his unraveling life.

Sweetheart, don’t get lost
In the murky gloom
Of some dark canvas that someone else
Has painted for you,
Find the person and the place
That can restore some hope
To your downcast heart
And desolate face.

And when you’re alone without a friend,
You will always know where you can find me,
I’ll be here in the incense room
Burning all my prayers for you.
