This is how it started

Last week Fidel Flores Vasquez is shot while resisting an eviction order in Cajamarca Peru.

Within hours the 62-year old mechanic is pronounced dead.

The community is outraged....and the anger has festered ever since.

The dead man's daughter has joined the protests and vows to stay in the streets until she gets answers.

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) CARMEN FLORES, DAUGHTER OF VICTIM, SAYING:

"What they did to my dad happened here in Cajamarca, not in Lima. We want straight answers. And we want the Minister of the Interior to come here immediately because if not, we are going to continue protesting indefinitely."

But the town's police chief Hugo Begazo is defiant

(SOUNDBITE) (Spanish) CAJAMARCA POLICE CHIEF, HUGO BEGAZO, SAYING:

"Vandalism will not be permitted. The person who lit the motorcycle on fire has been detained, he has been identified, the tape has been viewed."
