Another deadly car attack in Jerusalem deepens tensions

In the second attack of its kind in two weeks, a Palestinian man rammed his car into pedestrians in central Jerusalem.

Three people were killed, including the driver who was shot by police. Dozens were injured.

Like the first attack, this incident happened along the city's light railway, which links Arab and Jewish areas, a link often portrayed as a symbol of unity.

Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat says such acts warrant a global response.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) JERUSALEM MAYOR NIR BARKAT SAYING:

"I think terror is a global problem. I am not asking for help, I am telling you that if you do not fight terror, the whole world does not fight terror similarly to what we fight it is going to hurt you, not me not us in Jerusalem."

Orthodox Jews descended on the site to mourn for the dead and injured.

But Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman in Gaza, praises the attack.
