Funerals of those killed in a suicide bombing near Pakistan’s border with India have been held across Pakistan’s Punjab province.

The death toll from Sunday’s attack has now risen to 60. More than 100 people were wounded, many are still in hospital.

The explosion happened as hundreds of spectators were returning from watching the flag lowering ceremony which takes place as the border closes every day.

There have been protests against the Pakistani Taliban who claimed responsibility for the attack along with two other militant groups.

A member of the religious political party Sunni Tehreek said more should be done to take on the extremists. “We have always demanded that a very strong operation should be carried out against the terrorists, and that the terrorists should be wiped out. If the Taliban or their allied groups believe that they can weaken the courage of the Pakistan army, the Pakistani police or the Pakistani nation with their acts of terrorism, they are greatly mistaken.”

Earlier, India and Pakistan had said they would suspend the flag-lowering ceremonies on their respective sides of the Wagah border crossing. However they decided to go ahead, with Pakistan’s military saying it wanted the nation to unite against terrorism.
