I had a little pet, one time.
He had arms and legs and tail.
Tried my best to housetrain him,
But all to no avail.
One day I bought him a canvas,
Pots of paint, a brush as well.
He slapped on paint, in earnest.
Kept him quiet, for a spell.
I took the finished article
To a gallery, just for fun.
The experts milled around it,
Gave opinions, one by one.
Each could see a clear vision,
Of what the artist did impart.
They said it was a chef-d'ouvre,
A masterpiece of modern art.
Sometimes, to keep my pet amused,
While I had a quiet drink,
I'd sit him at the table
With some paper, pen and ink.
My pet was, now, much more content.
Happier, through and through.
I bought him crayons and a colouring book
But he'd only work with black and blue.
We holidayed in the West of Ireland.
Near an Atlantic Ocean bay.
I last saw him astride a dolphin,
En route to the U.S. of A.
The 'Land of Opportunity'
Should recognise his flair.
Didn't that little town in Alaska
Elect a cat to be Lord Mayor?
