Russian launches supply rocket for International Space Station

An unmanned Russian supply rocket blasted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrom in Kazakhstan Wednesday (October 29) on a resupply mission to the International Space Station.
The Progress 57 spacecraft is carrying more than 2800 pounds of supplies for the space station's Expedition 51 crew -- two NASA astronauts, one from the European Space Agency and three Russian cosmonauts. It is expected to dock on Wednesday at the station.
The successful launch came one day after a private U.S. rocket exploded in a spectacular fireball while attempting a similar mission from a launch site in Virginia.
The commercial Antares rocket built by Orbital Sciences Corporation exploded just seconds after lifting off Tuesday (October 28) from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility on Wallops Island, Virginia. An investigation into cause of the failure is underway.
