Walmart shoppers looking for plus-size Halloween garb on the retailer’s website were, for a time, directed to a category labeled ‘Fat Girl Costumes.’

The mega-store has since taken the unfortunate classification down and apologized for the fact that it was ever there at all.

At this time, there’s a great deal of mystery surrounding its appearance.

News of the ‘fat girl’ pages first broke on the website Jezebel.

Upon being tipped off by one of their readers, the site did some digging and found an oddity pertaining to the category’s content.

It strangely appeared to be dominated by repeats of the ensembles already available in the store’s plus size section.

Jezebel also pointed out the presence of very suspicious descriptions in the costume section in general.

For example, throughout the text accompanying a Marie Antoinette get-up, there were strange symbols in place of apostrophes.

The blurb further contained a few questionable beheading jokes, and began with, “I bet she’s regretting that crack about letting them eat cake by now.”

Walmart has been responding to the ‘fat girl costumes’ category complaints through Twitter and various media outlets.
