The mighty fortress of my mind
has shutters I can close at will.
Defences I can hide behind
from other minds that wish me ill.

I am quite safe from sneak attacks
whilst my shutters are in place.
The only thing my system lacks
is contact with the human race.

Sometimes you have to take a chance
and choose to let somebody pass
your closely guarded mind’s entrance.
You might find one amongst the mass

of minds which can broadcast.
Someone to whom you can relate
A friendly approach which at last
perhaps relieves your lonely state.

We lucky ones who can select
which messages we will receive.
Which ones accept and which reject
are far and few I do believe.

The rest are subject to the din.
the random chatter of the crowd.
Who cannot rein their own thoughts in
I’m very glad that I’m allowed

to be in control of my mind.
I can erect my own defence
and leave the random noise behind.
The broadcast thoughts which make no sense.
