Skeptics who are plagued by doubts,
like Pharaoh, must beware lest God
resorts to miracles and flouts
the laws of nature, acting odd.
The Bible tells us that His tricks,
concealed beneath His mighty sleeve,
can fool His doubters, and deep six
in Reed Seas those who don't believe
in miracles. I think I'll play
it safe, because I I don't like blood
in water, or the frogs that stay
inside the house and not on mud,
disgusting lice, and wild, wild beasts,
and pestilence and pus and boil,
and hail that rains on joyful feasts,
or locusts ravaging the soil,
and darkness when it should be light,
and death that suddenly appears,
precisely striking at midnight
the firstborn, sleeping on their biers.
In hope of such plagues to avoid
I now to God declare and shout:
'If what I've written has annoyed,
don't plague me. I renounce all doubt! ! '
If what I've written He will hear
I'm sure I will not come to grief,
unless He thinks I'm insincere,
and sadly quite beyond belief.
