CANADIANS SHOW PRIDE IN THEIR CAPITAL WITH ONLINE CAMPAIGN
Web users across Canada have taken to social networks following last Wednesday`s shocking and tragic events when a gunman stormed Ottawa's national war memorial and parliament, killing one member of the Canadian armed forces. Many have been posting to Twitter, hailing the bravery of Kevin Vickers, the head of security at the House of Commons who shot dead the gunman, and now a growing number of the capital`s residents are sharing their pride in Ottawa.
This web user posted a series of photos online just a few hours after the shooting, showing all that Ottawa has to offer. He wanted to illustrate that although Wednesday`s shooting has plunged the city into mourning, Ottawa has always been a beautiful and friendly place to live.
Thousands of others have followed suit and posted their pictures of Ottawa online, showing what a great place it is to live. Images of green spaces, grand monuments and smiling people have been shared on the web, all with the same objective: to help people forget the horror of Wednesday`s attack at Parliament Hill.
All Canadians are being urged to join the online campaign, and show national pride and unity under the #MyOttawa hashtag. And as we can see from the countless messages posted to social media, the hashtag is soaring with many keen to share what Ottawa means to them.
