Anyone familiar with U2 frontman, Bono knows the singer is often seen wearing sunglasses, whether it is indoors or outdoors.

Bono recently revealed why he’s so insistent on wearing shades. He and his band mates appeared on BBC1’s Graham Norton show, which is where the lead man said he suffers from an eye condition.

Bono explained “This is a good place to explain to people that I’ve had glaucoma for the last 20 years. I have good treatments and I am going to be fine.”

Glaucoma is caused by an accumulation of pressure in the eye, which in turn damages the optic nerve. Over time, the condition usually worsens and sometimes patients permanently lose their vision.

Glaucoma also makes the eyes far more sensitive to light. That explains why Bono was often spotted in brightly lit indoor events sporting a pair of shades.

Throughout the years, many had simply concluded the sunglasses were just part of his rock star persona. During the show, he also joked that people would start referring to him as ‘poor old blind Bono’.

The band is currently promoting their latest album titled ‘Songs of Innocence’.
