A couple in Merced, California is hoping they will be able to adopt a baby who was rescued from a dumpster. On Thursday morning, Jimmy and Annette Alvarez were home when a man sifting through a nearby bin for recyclables saw the infant.
He shouted for help and the couple ran from their apartment with a flashlight. Jimmy helped pull the baby out and wrapped the little girl up in his t-shirt.
Annette tapped on the infant’s chest hoping to get the child to breathe. As a response, the baby released a loud scream. (3,12,1) As she cuddled the cold newborn, Jimmy called 911.
The child was soon transported to the hospital. She has since been released and placed into the home of a temporary foster family.
Reflecting on the ordeal, Jimmy remarked “I was disgusted and angered. All these places where somebody can leave a child and just walk away and this person chose not to. I would have been glad if they left the baby at my door and knocked.”
The couple has reportedly received paperwork from CPS and have already attended a meeting. They even chose a name and purchased a gift bag for the baby.
Police have located the biological mother, who is said to be 13 years old. The young mom is now being cared for by Child Protective Services.
