Muslims across south asia celebrate Eid al-Adha Monday - one of the two most important religious celebrations in the Islamic faith.

In Bangladesh, mosques were filled with followers for morning prayers.

During holiday, also known as the "Feast of Sacrifice", various livestock are slaughtered and butchered. Meat from the animal is distributed to the poor and to neighbours and family members.

The occasion honours the story of the Prophet Ibrahim who was willing to sacrifice his son's life in the name of God. Becuase of his devotion, his son was spared and he sacrificed a ram instead.

In Pakistan, anti-government protesters occupying high-security zones in the capital offered Eid prayers.

Imran Khan and populist clerics also offered Eid prayers in the protest camps.

As is customary, Muslims embraced each other and exchanged Eid greetings after the prayers.
