A violinist has garnered the attention he deserves after a performance years ago that was barely noticed. In 2007, Joshua Bell played at a Washington D.C. subway station.

A famed concert violinist has recreated a virtually ignored performance from years ago, but this time the people took notice.

In 2007, Joshua Bell played at a Washington D.C. subway station. Then, a crowd of about 2 dozen or so people stopped and listened, but for the most part everyone else kept on walking right by without paying him too much mind.

Hundreds gathered to watch and hear the Grammy-winning violinist perform as people flocked to the main hall of Union Station during the lunch hour rush.

He, along with 9 other musicians played for them. Those who were in attendance got to hear Bell’s version of famous pieces by Bach and Mendelssohn.

Judging by the whistles and cheers from the crowd, everyone loved it. Seven years ago, the reaction was very different.

Bell went incognito as part of collaboration with The Washington Post to see if people would recognize beautiful music during their route to work. They didn’t and that memory has impacted Bell’s life.

He explained how he looks at street musicians since then, “When I walk by I always give something now because after my experience, I don't want to be the one who walks by and doesn't pay attention.”
