With a strong millitary presence, Turkey opens its borders for refugees fleeing Islamic State's assault in Syria.

Soldiers aren't taking chances however, as they thoroughly search Syrian Kurds flocking to safer territory... tightening their grip on the frontier, and haulting the flow of foreign fighters trying to enter Syria.

Armored vehicles now overlook the besieged Syrian border town of Kobani, but Turkish Prime Minster Ahmet Davutoglu says they need more international assistance:

(SOUNDBITE) (Turkish) TURKISH PRIME MINISTER, AHMET DAVUTOGLU, SAYING:

"If this is a global challenge we should all make an effort to fight against it. Enough is enough. You cannot make Turkey and the neighbouring countries pay the entire price of the crisis in Syria and the crisis in Iraq and attempt to teach lessons to us from your geography. We cannot accept this."

Shelling by Islamic State insurgents in Syria has intensified, and stray fire hit Turkish soil, Monday.
