According to one of the staff members at the clinic, Joan Rivers' doctor took a selfie picture in the procedure room while Rivers was under anesthesia.

The comedian Joan Rivers recently passed away from cardiac arrest after undergoing a medical procedure at Manhattan’s Yorkville Endoscopy clinic.

According to a CNN report, a clinic staffer shared with the investigators that River’s personal physician took a selfie picture in the procedure room after she was placed under anesthesia.

Gastroenterologist Doctor Lawrence Cohen finished up the scheduled endoscopy to diagnose Rivers’ sore throat and hoarse voice, and another doctor came in to conduct a biopsy, which was done without the patient’s consent.

CNN notes that the second doctor who took the selfie was not certified to work at the clinic, but was described by the clinic staff as Rivers’ personal ear, nose and throat specialist.

Experts investigating what happened think that complications during the biopsy caused Rivers’ vocal chords to swell up.

This prevented the flow of oxygen to her lungs, and led to a cardiac arrest.

Rivers was immediately sent to New York’s Mount Sinai Hospital only a mile away, where she was unable to regain consciousness and passed away a week later.

Yorkville Endoscopy released a statement saying that no vocal chord biopsy has ever been performed at the clinic, and Doctor Cohen is no longer conducting medical procedures there or serving as the medical director.
