Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, has announced a new album and tour that will take him to Britain, Canada and, for the first time since 1976, to the United States.

Yusuf's first new studio album in five years, "Tell 'Em I'm Gone," will be released on October 27.

The album was produced by Yusuf and veteran American record producer Rick Rubin.

Islam, who became a Muslim in 1977 and abandoned his pop star life, has had his fair share of controversy during the past decade, most notably when he was deported from the U.S. in 2004 after his name appeared on a "no-fly" watch list designed to weed out suspected terrorists.

The singer has denied the allegations and has frequently spoken out against terrorism and has since returned to the U.S. on several occasions.

Yusuf will kick off his Peace Train....Late Again tour in London on November 4 and play Toronto on December 1, with stops in Boston, New York, Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles from Decembe
