Police officers in Stamford, Connecticut have reportedly raised eight hundred dollars for a 27-year-old autistic man that was robbed of his birthday money.

Footage of the crime was captured on surveillance video at Veteran’s Park in Stamford’s Town Center.

The video shows the victim proudly displaying his birthday money to another man.

He was tricked into handing over the money, and seemingly taunted by the thief who then pretended to put it back in the victim’s pocket, but really made off with a hundred dollars cash.

The victim didn’t realize what happened until it was too late.

After hearing about the unfortunate incident, police decided to join together to raise enough money to not only replace the birthday funds, but also give the victim a little something extra.

They plan to surprise the man who was robbed by presenting the cash to him and his family.

The thief is still on the loose, and police have released a description along with the video, which shows him wearing a hooded sweatshirt with a white design, and striped pants.

Several leads have already come in, including from people who have watched the surveillance video footage.
