Simons is a minimalist master and he wasted no time in stripping the CD silhoutte down to its sculptural hourglass base in a collection full of wide skirted bustier dresses with embroidery applied allover like a thick floral carpet. Simons played with Dior's archetypal Bar jacket by taking the shape and applying it to other pieces, notably dresses. And he abbreviated ball gowns covered with embroidery into little bustier tops with mini balloon skirts worn over stark black trousers as if to confront couture dreams with the reality of modern femininity. The entire collection had a fresh, first time quality as though a child genius had been let loose in the Dior atelier to combine evening wear and daytime tailoring, pants and ballgown embroidery, fur and hourglass dresses.
