Valentino took a laid-back approach to the coming season, with an easy-breezy collection that included everything a well-to-do woman could need for summer, whether they have yacht parties, award ceremonies or holidays in Capri to attend. Parka jackets, slouchy beach bags, thong sandals and chunky necklaces all featured prominently in the all-encompassing collection, but don't be fooled by the descriptions - off-duty Valentino is still seriously glossy. Parkas they may have been, but these were crafted out of sublime organza or wispy taffeta; a simple bikini was dressed up with a belt, a solid cuff, a flowering corsage and high heels. Not so much a collection for girls-on-the-go, this was more for women who aren't afraid of making an entrance. Satin ribbon woven through silver rings were a signature feature that sprang up again and again on trousers, bikinis and high-glamour evening gowns - providing Valentino's famous polish and attention to detail. The aforementioned after-dark gowns certainly didn't disappoint, whether tied up in ribbons, garnished with tiered ruffles or worn sleek and refined. Lead by two dresses in statement Valentino red, elsewhere the palette had been toned down a little with lilac, moss green and chocolate brown all given a chance to shine. Logos, noticeably absent from so many of the shows this season, made their mark in every which way: as a print on dresses and swimwear, or abbreviated to the designer on belts and bags. After all, if you're wearing Valentino, you want people to know about it.
