As drawn to Science Fiction as always, Dutch designer Iris Van Herpen attempted to tame and recreate electricity. To a soundtrack by Canadian singer Grimes, her muse, she composed a 3D printed collection of dresses, that innovated in the genre by presenting new, high-tech flexible materials "that don't even have a name yet" said the designer backstage. Her daywear was relatively tame, and consisted of high-waisted skirts and curved tops, boxy trenchcoats and belted knee-length dresses, all built from a spiky, futuristic origami-inspired texture. The nightwear grew increasingly complex, and offered a multitude of prickly dress that mimicked the appearance of electricity shooting through a body. Porcupine-like shells, Christmas tree like silhouette and shimmery scales perpetuated an organic yet decisively utopian philosophy. The show proved concise, precise and highlighted her trademark silhouettes - an ideal preparation to her upcoming ready-to-wear in March.
