Apple Announces iPhone 6 & Apple Watch - The Good and the Glitch

iPhone: Two new iPhone models will begin shipping next week. The iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus are bigger than previous models (4.7 inch and 5.5 inch screens respectively) although the devices are thinner than previous models. WiFi on both models will support phone calls, meaning you won’t have to use up all of your minutes when making a voice call. Both devices will reportedly offer audio playback capabilities exceeding 50 hours on a single charge. Talk time while making a call will amount to 13 hours. Photographers will appreciate “burst mode” for taking action-packed still frames. Videographers will undoubtedly love the 1080p high definition video capability along with the ability to shoot video in slow motion at 240 frames per second. The price for an iPhone 6 starts at $199, with the iPhone 6 Plus entering the market at $299.
Apple Pay: Apple wants to take a chunk out of the billion dollar credit card industry. Soon, you will be able to enter banking information into your new iPhone, wave it over a scanner by the cash register, and instantly pay for your goods. No signature, no pins, no paper receipts. Major retailers and restaurants are already signing on and include McDonalds, Subway, Whole Foods, Walgreens, Nike and Petco with more expected to support the service soon. Will Apple Pay be secure? The company claims so, but keep in mind that anything you store in the cloud is at risk.
Apple Watch: The much rumored wrist-mounted wonder has been officially introduced. The sleek, metal wristwatch works as an extension of your iPhone. The device, offered with a variety of wrist strap styles, will allow you to make calls, message friends, check email, navigate and even monitor your pulse. The Apple Watch will be sold in three varieties with an introductory price of $349. Apple representatives say the watch will be available in early 2015.
U2: In 2005, U2 ushered in the iPod revolution with their own branded digital music player. Apple has called on the band again to breathe new life into iTunes. After Apple announced the new product lineup, U2 took the stage and revealed their new album – rumored to be delayed and not ready for release until 2015 – would be downloaded free of charge to every iTunes user following the news conference. It’s the largest album release in history. If you use iTunes the album will automatically appear in your library.
