Western and Arab nations vow to combat Islamic State militants

As the Iraqi Kurdish community buried the latest of their fighters to die in the battle against Islamic State militants, the international community has been firming up its stance against the jihadists.
US President Barack Obama branded the group sometimes known as ISIL as an acute threat to the West as well as the Middle East in a televised interview.
On Wednesday he will explain to the US public how he plans to stop the well armed sectarian force. The speech will be on the eve of the anniversary of 9/11 – when al Qaeda militants attacked the US on home soil.
Meanwhile Arab League foreign ministers meeting in Cairo have agreed to take all necessary measures to confront Islamic State and cooperate with international efforts to combat militants who have overrun swathes of Iraq and Syria.
