The Messenger of God (pbuh) says, "When people bearing black banners appear, this will be followed by people bearing small black banners, again from the east.” In other words, there are people with large black banners, and people with small ones.
The hadiths say that people with black banners will appear after disagreements with Syrians. And that has happened, hasn’t it ?
- Yes.
"They will wage war with a man from the line of Abu Sufyan.” Look, they are waging war with someone from the line of the Sufyan, with his son, Bashar Assad. He appears in another hadith as “the son of the liver-eater.”
"People from the Bani Abbas [the children of Abbas] bearing black banners will appear.” This hadiths refers to Arabs. Arabs bearing black banners.
"People bearing black banners will kill those who oppose them in cities on the shores of the Euphrates, on land and on the sea." (Sheikh Muhammad ibn Ibrahim Numani, al-Ghaybah al-Numani, p. 327).
ISIS is actually clashing with the PKK now.
"They will move very swiftly,” says our Prophet. ISIS has a lot of Humvees and they really can move very fast.
"Kufa and Basra will fall into their hands in one night.” They are moving very fast, that is also true. Our Prophet says that the cities they enter will literally be given to them like presents.
"If they are not given what they want, they will achieve victory through fighting, and what they desire will then be given to them.” (Majlisi Bihar al-Anwar, vol. 51 p. 87.)
"The soldiers will have long hair and beards.” They really do let their hair and beards grow and not cut them.
"Their clothes are black, and then are the men of the black banners.” That is an exact description of ISIS.
"They will murder those who oppose them on masse, making no exceptions.” They are really doing that now.
"The people with the black banners who appear from Khorasan will descend to Kufa.” They have entered Kufa.
"The men of the black banners will proceed as far as Jerusalem.” True – nobody is able to halt their progress.
"There will be a great war.” There is a great war going on now.
"Eventually the bearers of the black banners will come, and the forces of the Sufyan will flee.” He says they defeat the Syrians.
"People will then hope for the Mahdi."
Our Prophet is not saying that the bearers of the black banners are good. He is saying that they will shed blood.
It is the Mahdi whom people hope for, not the black banner bearers.
In the hadith he says, "People will then hope for the Mahdi." (He says they will seek the Mahdi to free them from persecution)
There will be a ruthless system full of terrible afflictions. Since there are rivers of flood in Palestine people will be unable to approach the Mahdi. People are seeking the Mahdi. Our Prophet says, “They will seek him.”
"And they will obey the Mahdi.” They will put matters right, and there will be no more evil from the terrorists.
"They will give command to the Mahdi. One of my line, the Alh al-Bayt,” he says. Majlisi Bukhari says they will surrender.
"When the Mahdi appears, there will be such justice that not even the sleeper will be wakened.”
ISIS is literally killing people, cannot even be compared to “not waking them up.”
"And the Mahdi will not permit one drop of blood to be shed.” ISIS is shedding rivers of blood. Our Prophet is saying that the Mahdi will put a stop to this.
"The men of war will lay down their burdens, their weapons and equipment in other words, and there will be no more enmity between anyone.”
Muslims are now killing Muslims. They are saying that Israel is killing Muslims. OK, let us say that Israel has killed 100 people. ISIS has killed 100,000. They have killed 100,000 Muslims in a few months. Muslims are killing many times more Muslims. They do this while claiming to be Muslims.
- A thousand Muslims a day are being killed. Muslims are responsible for 90% of that.

"All conflict and enmity will definitely vanish,” the Prophet says, in Ash-Sharani, Mukhtasar Tazkirah al-Qurtubi, p. 496.
As our Prophet says that there will be no bloodshed in the time of the Mahdi he also gives the Mahdi a nickname, "Mahdi al-dam," he says, "The Mahdi who stops bloodshed.”
Our prophet tells us to follow the Mahdi. He does not tell us to go and follow the men in black. You must follow the Mahdi, he says. But when the men with black banners appear, then know that the Mahdi is also present. In other words, he says that this group is a portent of the Mahdi.
