SCRIPT

Militia fighters of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic were deployed near Donetsk on Wednesday, and stated that they are determined to defeat the Ukrainian army after winning control of the city airport overnight.

The leader of the Vostok Battalion which is guarding a checkpoint at Peski on the outskirts of Donetsk said government forces must be "rooted out everywhere" in the region.

The commander, known as ‘Scorpion’, sad that if self-defence forces do not win, there is a danger the army could launch a guerrilla campaign to terrorise local residents.
