The drought of the past few months has driven basic grain prices sharply higher in Guatemala as disaster conditions have been registered in 16 out of the country's 22 departments. The government is currently preparing 3,274 UNICEF food boxes to be delivered to 36,000 families hard hit by the drought, a El Niño related phenomenon that meteorologists warn is becoming increasingly common throughout most of Central America. teleSUR
