CDC Chief: West Africa Ebola crisis "likely to get worse"

U.S. CDC Chief, Dr. Tom Frieden, said on Tuesday (September 2) that the Ebola outbreak in West Africa is the world's first Ebola epidemic.
"This is, really, the first epidemic of Ebola the world has ever know," Frieden said, adding that it's spreading by those caring for infected patients, and unsafe burial practices, where individuals have a high risk of coming in contact with the deadly virus.
He warned that the situation is likely to worsen over the next few weeks.
"Bad as the situation is now, everything I've seen suggests that over the next few weeks it's likely to get worse."
Frieden said the Ebola epidemic is not just a problem for West Africa, but "a problem for the world, and the world and the world needs to respond."
More than 1,500 people have been killed in West Africa in the worst outbreak since the disease was discovered in 1976 near the Ebola river in what is now Democratic Republic of Congo.
