Controversy has erupted over who asked the Chief of Army Staff Raheel Sharif to mediate between the government and protestors.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar gave speeches on the floor of the house, both saying that it was Imran Khan and Dr Tahirul who had requested that the Army chief mediate. Immediately after, Imran and Dr Qadri gave statements saying the government was lying about this.
A storm kicked up when ISPR’s chief tweeted that it was the government that had asked Gen. Sharif to mediate. Critics of the government began saying that the government was caught “lying” on the floor of the National Assembly.
