The 71st annual Venice Film Festival opened with a star-studded red carpet premiere of "Birdman." The film's lead star Michael Keaton joined Edward Norton and Emma Stone for the red carpet. The actors posed for photos and signed autographs for fans - some of whom waited at the carpet for hours ahead of the premiere.

In "Birdman," Michael Keaton stars as a former superhero trying to make a comeback. It will join 19 other films in the main competition for the fest's top prize, the Golden Lion, set to be handed out on September 06.
