There is a large market for sheep’s wool.
However not all sheep have a trimmed haircut. Tasmania’s ‘Shaun the Sheep’ is one animal that is showcasing quite a bit of fluffiness.
He may very well be the “world’s woolliest sheep” and if not, he’s most likely a top contender for the title. Reportedly, it’s been about 5 years since his wool was sheared. It actually looks like the six-year-old merino’s wool has never been trimmed.
He was discovered on a property in Tasmania’s Midlands, but his new owners believe he wandered across the state for most of his life. Peter and Netty Hazell are the famers who found him wandering on their property Sunday.
Peter described the first encounter stating “He couldn't see very well because of the wool over his face, so I snuck up behind him and grabbed him.” The Hazells have taken him in and plan to clip him this week.
His fur is about half-a-meter thick. Once he’s trimmed, they’ll learn if he is the new world record holder for fleece yield.
Currently a sheep in New Zealand named Shrek holds the title for producing 27 kg of wool back in 2004.
